Overheard (2009)

September 20th, 2009 No comments

Starring: Lau Ching-Wan, Louis Koo Tin-Lok, Daniel Wu, Alex Fong Chung-Sun, Zhang Jingchu
Plot: A solid, entertaining and mostly well-cast thriller from some of those Infernal Affairs guys, Overheard manages tension and some surprise – even if it was approved by China. A massive improvement over Alan Mak and Felix Chong’s last film, Lady Cop and Papa Crook. Featuring one of the worst and also funniest performances of the year from Michael Wong.

Starring: Lau Ching-Wan, Kelly Lin, Mia Yam, Zeng Qi Qi, Ching Ying-Kit, Yeung Shuk-Man, Bonnie Wong Man-Wai, Jo Koo
Plot: Wai Ka-Fai’s fantasy-drama is a winning Hong Kong film that pushes emotions and ideas over artifice and complete coherence. The resulting film won’t win over all, but those who roll with it may be particularly charmed. Having Lau Ching-Wan as your lead doesn’t hurt, either. One of the more special films this year.
